      \nPavement Ants – Only 1\/8 inch long, the tiny black Pavement
      \nAnt is very common. Large numbers of Pavement Ants are often

      \nPharaoh Ants worker ants are 1\/16\u201d long and the Queen is 1\/8 – 1\/4

      \nPharoah Ants originate from the tropics and require artificial heat
      \nin order to survive and reproduce and tend to live in large heated
      \nbuildings such as hospitals, hotels and apartments.
      \nThe Pharoah ant is one of the most difficult ant species to control.
      \nCitronella Ants – About \u00bc inch long, citronella ants swarm in the
      \nlate winter and early spring. Because of their swarming, they are
      \noften mistaken for termites.
      \nUnlike termites, however, citronella ants are simply a nuisance
      \nand do not cause structural damage. Citronella ants are so
      \nnamed for the pleasant citronella odor they give off when
      \ncrushed.
      \nFlying Ants
      \nThe ‘flying ants’ we commonly see during the early raining season
      \nare, in fact, sexually active males and females of the Black garden
      \nant who have been waiting all summer for the perfect conditions to
      \nperform their nuptual flight.
      \nOnce some ants begin to fly, other ants detect their chemical smell and
      \njoin them. The swarms last all day.
      \nBlack garden ants can bite if you come into contact with them. This
      \ncan sometimes cause allergic reactions in some people.

      \nNorway rats prefer to nest around lower floors of a building.
      \nHowever, if there is a larger population, or an area allows, they can
      \nlive in attics, above ceilings, or upper floors. Their nests may be
      \nfound in wall voids, underneath floors, crawlspaces, and even
      \nfurniture. Nests are mostly built using soft materials such as paper,
      \ncloth, leaves, grass, etc.
      \nDifferences between Roof Rats & Norway Rats
      \nThere are several ways to determine if you have a Roof rat or Norway
      \nrat on or in your property. Since both rats are typically shy in
      \nnature, it may be difficult to get a good look at them. However,
      \ntheir physical appearances are different.
      \nRoof Rats are sleek in appearance. They have pointed snouts, large
      \nprominent eyes, and are typically gray to black in color. The Norway
      \nRat is thicker in body size, have blunted snouts, small eyes, and
      \nare brown in color.
      \nAnother way to help you identify if you have a roof rat or brown rat is to
      \nlocate their nests.
      \nRoof rats usually make their nests in walls, attics, trees. The brown
      \nrat will usually burrow to make their nests.
      \nRats in Your Home
      \nAlthough mice are more likely to intrude into your home, rats will
      \nalso enter a home if they are attracted to the food, water and shelter
      \navailable.
      \nSigns of Rats
      \nAlthough rats are nocturnal and usually hide from humans, there are a
      \nnumber of signs that can indicate their presence in your home:
      \n\uf0d8 Scratching noises in walls or under the floor as rats scurry around.
      \n\uf0d8 Droppings rats leave dark, tapered droppings about 3\/8″ – 9\/16″ long.
      \n\uf0d8 Distinctive smell rats leave an ammonia-like smell that will be
      \nparticularly strong in enclosed areas such as under cupboards.
      \n\uf0d8 Damage they have teeth that grow continuously and gnaw on wood
      \nand plastic to keep them trim.
      \no Rats can even cause fires by chewing through cables.
      \n\uf0d8 Ripped food packaging rats will tear open food which may leave
      \nteeth marks.
      \n\uf0d8 Nests rats build nests in warm, hidden places using
      \nshredded material such as newspaper and fabrics. Nests will
      \noften contain young rats.
      \n\uf0d8 Burrows – In gardens, rats will dig burrows especially in
